"To be like Him."

They ask "Lord, give us this bread always."
A reasonable request. A profound prayer.
It reveals a deep desire. It manifests misunderstanding.

Jesus is the Bread of Life.

Today our Community Mass was at Meribah in Muttontown, NY. We gathered for Morning Prayer and Mass. Father Thomas was the celebrant and preached using the image of Christ as the Bread of Life. We receive Him in the Eucharist. But this does more than just physical nourishment. We are not just feeding our bodies. It nourishes the soul as well. When we consume the Eucharist we become the Body of Christ. We become what we eat.

Our founder, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, put it very well when he encouraged all of us, "To be like Him." Become what you eat. Become the Body of Christ.

When we come to our Eucharistic Lord believing in Him, He will keep His promise to us: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
