Here's a challenge - no ice bucket involved!
Christians will observe the Sabbath on Sunday,
but you'll need a little time to prepare to meet my challenge.
Need a day off from it all?
That's just what the Sabbath was meant to be!
A day of rest, a day for prayer...
Of course, some folks have to work on the Sabbath.
But that doesn't relieve me (or you) from the responsibility
or, more accurately, the opportunity to set aside
some time for rest and some time for prayer,
on the Sabbath...
Spend a moment or two with these words:
If you don't take a Sabbath,
something is wrong.
You're doing too much,
you're being too much in charge.
You've got to quit, one day a week,
and just watch what God is doing
when you're not doing anything.
~ Eugene Peterson
So here's the challenge:
which part of it can you complete?
If not the whole day on Sunday,
what part of your day
will you set aside for rest and prayer?
If not a part of the day,
what hour of your day
will you set aside for rest and prayer on Sunday?
If not an hour of the day,
what break in your day
will you set aside for rest and prayer on Sunday?
Take some time to see what God is doing
when you're not doing anything...
But wherever you are I challenge you
to find and make some time
for Sabbath rest and prayer...
