He insists "Two people love each other only when they are quite capable of living without each other but choose to live with each other."
And Jesus always wants us to love him and obey him FREELY - not because we've received a spiritual shot of some kind. When we make this choice, we are given a wonderful gift - one that makes it easier to choose wisely in the future. This gift is the presence and power of a Lord who comes to us and makes his home with us. According to the Gospel of John, God and Christ dwell in all who live in love and obedience, the Holy Spirit comes to teach them, and Christ himself gives them his peace. That's an attractive incentive for anyone considering a life of love and obedience.
